Italian Farinata with Spring Herb Pesto, Baby Radishes, Early Potatoes & Fresh Mozzarella

This tasty meal is delightfully gourmet, but it’s not difficult to make and it highlights the best flavors of the season right now. Italian Riviera-inspired Fare Cinque Terre, a seaside escape in the Genoa region, is rugged and windswept and surprising. Meals are culled from the sea and harvested from the stepped gardens that sweep…

I’m sorting, quietly finding random moments of s I’m sorting, quietly finding random moments of strength, and choosing to believe that when women have equal rights we will fix this. Look at your state’s laws. Codify equal rights and abortion rights NOW and understand the deep history behind all of this.

I have been on an understandable hiatus from Instagram. Last week shattered me. I couldn’t stop crying. The grief and horror. The news makes no sense. The unraveling of the police response is horrific and shocking. This torture and heartache must end. Our teachers and kids need us to make better decisions. Our forefathers didn’t go to war so that future generations could be gunned down while trying to give and get an education. Speak up. Fix this mess. Honor those who have served our country by believing in better. Call your senators. Demand change. This is not anti-gun. This is not anti-second amendment. This is fix the damn problem now.

It was a joy and pleasure to write an article abou It was a joy and pleasure to write an article about longtime Bainbridge Islander Mary Terry in the summer 2022 issue of PNW Bainbridge Magazine @pnwbainbridge —in your mailbox now if you live on the island. Many thanks to Editor in Chief Allison Schuchman for the opportunity. 🙏🏻 We all need inspiration heroes. We need people who can lead us along with wisdom and verve and encouragement. Mary Terry gave me generous doses of all of those things in a beautiful interview at her heritage seaside cottage. I hope you check out the article and let me know what you think. The magazine is chock-full of beautiful stories and photos, a wonderful montage of what it means to live here. Many thanks to David W. Cohen @davidwcohen.photos for the stunning photos of Mary. I am really in love with the captures of her in her sewing studio. Mary is a maker of magic and it really shines through in the incredible tapestry of that space. Do give David a thumbs up and a follow @davidwcohen.photos , and be sure to follow @pnwbainbridge for more news and tidbits about life here.

But this year, six years in, I have plenty of peonies and hydrangeas to feel okay about snipping them. I love the white frilly buttercream lilacs I just planted, and I definitely need to keep planting these pink and peach double-petal daffodils. I’m excitedly checking the rose bushes for buds every few days. Flowers instantly bring so much joy into a room. 💐 What are your favorite spring flowers?

Happy Mothers Day to parents everywhere.
Don’t take us back to the days when women didn’t have rights over their own bodies. Don’t take full color moments and turn them black and white and sepia. Women’s rights are human rights. Nobody deserves anything less. If you believe in the right to life, show it by ({[truly, really, actually, fully, actively, daily]}) supporting victims of assault and abuse and by giving real support to our human girls just trying to live their lives outside of accepted narratives of oppression. I have never had to make the painful decision of choosing abortion. I hope I never will. But by goodness I support a woman’s right to choose. There are many reasons why I have arrived at this truth and it is based on lived and studied reason. If you are confused about WHY this disproportionately affects women of color and people without health insurance, please reach out. I can send some information. Thank you.

Our 11-year-old son made breakfast for us yesterda Our 11-year-old son made breakfast for us yesterday. He loves watching Jacques Pepin’s cooking videos @jacquespepinfoundation and loves Jacques’s recipe for Cocotte Eggs (Oeufs en Cocotte). He even styled the photo with fresh herbs from our garden. It was delicious. 😋
.
The recipe is very easy. You need butter, eggs, salt and pepper, and favorite toppings such as cheese and herbs, and heat-proof individual sized dishes, such as ramekins, and a saucepan and lid.
.
Generously butter the ramekins. Crack an egg into the ramekin. Position the yolk into the center of the ramekin. Top with salt and pepper. Place in a saucepan filled with 2-3” of water, and put the lid on the pan. Simmer the water at a low boil for about 3 minutes for a runny yolk, longer for a set yolk. Add toppings, such as grated cheese and chopped chives (pictured here) and let steam just until cheese is melted. Remove ramekin when desired yolk is achieved. Use a knife to separate the egg from the sides of the ramekin, and turn onto a plate. Top with additional toppings(here, snipped chives, salt ‘n pepper, fresh thyme, borage and bok choi flowers). Serve with toast, if desired.
.
